Hebrews 4:12 Bible Study

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 ESV

It is no doubt that God’s Word is powerful.  It is the guidebook for our life, a portal into the mind of God, and a history of God’s creation.  Since I started Hebrews a number of years ago, the purpose was to bring people deeper into God’s Word and closer to God.  It has been my conviction that people, especially my generation, need to be more engaged with Scripture.

SAVN.tvI am happy to announce today that, beginning Saturday, May 3, I will be starting an online video chat Bible study with!  This is a new project by The Salvation Army Vision Network to engage people around the world in Scripture study using the street corner of today: the Internet.

Managed by The Salvation Army Western Territory, already has a number of Bible studies and recovery groups meeting weekly online with many more starting up in the next few weeks.  I am excited to be joining the other moderators in this opportunity.

For a few years, I have thought that something like this would soon happen.  For many college students, it can be difficult to get to a church or find friends to hold a Bible study.  This new development will allow college students and anyone else to meet with familiar faces on a weekly basis to engage in God’s Word.  It also allows for the opportunity to reach those who may never step foot in a church but are seeking spiritual guidance.  The Internet is the new place for evangelism – it is the new street corner.  Through this, we can interact with people like we never have before.

I know some people may be critical of such a program.  They say it does not allow for the personal, face-to-face interaction that is necessary for community.  While this cannot and should not replace church Bible studies, it is an opportunity to bring people together for Bible study who cannot or would not go to a regular church Bible study.  Plus, the video chat allows users to connect their own webcam and microphone and interact face-to-face with the other group members.  Though they may not be sitting right in front of me, I can interact with them in real-time as we study God’s Word.  The truth is, this is where the people are.  I’m sure people were critical of William Booth sending people into the pubs to sell War Cry’s, but that was where the people were.  We live in a time where people are always online, connected to their phones and tablets, and are more likely to engage with someone online.  Let’s go to where the people are!

As I said, this new Bible study, called Hebrews 4:12, will be starting on Saturday, May 3 at 8:00 PM Central (6:00 PM PDT).  We will begin by looking at the book of Acts.  We’ll be systematically going through the text and observing, analyzing, and applying God’s Word.  If you would like to join, go to and register an account.  You will then be able to enter the video stream when we are live.  If you are using a webcam and mic, please make sure you have a pair of headphones.  You do not have to join the video chat and can simply watch and engage through the chat box on the page if you wish.

I look forward to seeing you on May 3!  May God bless!
